Ring sling for Hali

slings1.jpg

I finished one of the slings I’m working on for one of Aaron’s coworkers today. It’s reversible — linen and cotton. I think it looks great! She picked out the fabric though, so I can only take credit for the stitching. It actually turned out so much better than the sling we have that I’m going to have to make myself a new one as well. I’ve got a pair of leftover turquoise rings that would look snappy with some light linen or shimmery gauze.

Sullivan just loves his sling and it’s always a good way (especially for Aaron) to get him to fall asleep. Even though I personally use our pouch more than our ring sling, I think the ring sling is still the best for new moms. I only use the pouch because it’s so stylin’ and less bulky to carry around. Just toss in diaper bag.

Anyway, yeah, rambling. Really digging the ring sling.

The other thing I got accomplished today was picking out some stuff for the Imbolc/Candlemas swap on Swap-bot! I’m really excited about this one because it’s my first “package” swap. Woot!

A family of hats

Hat family

The thing I love most about the internet is that I can now find instructions on how to make just about anything my heart desires without ever having to leave the house. The other day I got a wild hankering for a winter hat with “ears”. Like, cat or mouse or bear ears — the sort of hat that Sullivan wears when we want him to look ridiculous (minus the whole suit).

So the first thing I did was search etsy, but finding nothing suitable to my needs or budget, I went to google hat patterns and landed on this pattern from Martha Stewart. In fact, it’s totally worth it to click through every single damn tutorial on her website because damn! Girl knows her crafties!

I thought the hat with the little pinched corners was hat-with-ears-like enough so I gave it a try with some fleece I had around that I wouldn’t be sad to mess up. Well, I made the hat way too big so I gave it to Aaron. I stopped in his office yesterday and his co-worker’s wife and baby were also there. She commented on Aaron’s hat and made a joke about matching hats for her and her daughter — so yesterday evening I whipped up a whole family of hats for them.

I hope they like the hats! If for no other reason than to take a cheesy family photo in! They are seriously the easiest thing to sew up — ten minutes of your time and you’ve got a funny hat! Can’t beat that with a stick.
